What we keep, and why

A player number. The first time you play, your device gets a random number, kept in a cookie (in the app: inside the app). It is what keeps your game in progress, your scores and your stats yours without needing an account. The number says nothing else about you: no name, email address or device details are attached to it.

Your games. The server rolls the dice, because in your own browser you could nudge them, and therefore keeps the rolls and the boxes you filled in. That is what makes the top 10, your stats, your achievements and watching a game back possible.

The name you type in for a high score or a duel. Feel free to make one up: it is visible to everyone in the top 10 and to your opponent.

Only if you create an account, on the site or in the app: your email address. There is no password, so we do not store one: you sign in with a code we email you, and that code expires after ten minutes or as soon as you use it. An account is what carries your stats and duels to every device. A signed-in session also holds the IP address and browser description of that moment; the sign-in library stores those so sessions can be revoked if they are abused.

Only if you pick one yourself: a photo on your account. It is cropped square and shrunk to 256 by 256 on your own device before it is sent, so the original file never leaves your phone or computer, and that re-encoding also strips the camera and location details usually held inside it. It is stored in our own database, not with another party, and everyone who sees your name sees it: in the top 10, in a duel and in the daily challenge.

Your language choice and whether sound is off. That stays on your own device.

What we do not do

No ads, no trackers, no analytics, no third-party cookies and no profiling. We do not sell or share your data, and we do not use it to follow you outside the game.

Who else sees it

The site and the app run on our own server, and that is where the data lives.

Two parties work for us and see something of you in doing so. Lettermint sends the sign-in email (the code and the link you sign in with) and receives your email address and the contents of that message for it. We never email you for anything else.

Expo delivers the app's updates. Every time the app checks for a new version, Expo sees a random installation number (created on your phone at first launch, with no link to who you are), the platform and your IP address. No name, no scores. This applies to the app only, not to the site.

Other players only see the name you typed in, your tile or your photo, and what you do in a game or duel. Without a photo that tile is a small drawn mark which only says that you have an account and which of the twelve you picked.

A photo that is out of order can be reported: tap it wherever you see it and an email opens with the code of that photo in it. Leave that code in, because it is how we find the photo and take it down.

How long we keep it

Individual games: 7 days. After that they are gone, even if you still wanted to watch one back.

Your player number with your stats and achievements: 400 days after your last visit. Play again within that window and the clock restarts; otherwise everything attached to it is deleted.

A score in the top 10 stays up under the name you chose for it, even after your player number has been cleaned up.

An account is kept until you delete it yourself. When you do, your email address, your photo, your stats, your achievements and your duels go with it there and then; only your scores in the top 10 stay, under the name you chose for them.

Your photo is kept until you remove it or your account goes. Removing works at once, in the top 10 too, because that list reads your photo live and holds no copy of it. Anyone who already saw it may still have it in their own browser cache for at most a week; after that it is gone there as well.

What you can do yourself

You remove your photo yourself with one button under Account, and your tile comes back.

You delete your account yourself as well, under Account. After the confirmation everything attached to it is gone at once; no email is needed and there is nothing for us to do.

Clear this site's cookies, or delete the app, and you are a new player from your next game on. Your old scores and stats cannot be recovered for you after that. They disappear by themselves within the periods above.

Want to see what is kept about you, have something corrected, or have your score taken out of the top 10 as well? Email info@fliksemblits.nl and we will sort it out within 30 days. Include your player name or your email address, otherwise we cannot tell which data is yours.

If you disagree with how we handle this, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Children

Jatzee is fun for everyone, but it is not aimed at children and we do not ask for anyone's age. Creating an account is possible on the site and in the app, and needs an email address. Please do not put a photo of a child on it: it is visible to everyone who sees your name.

If this policy changes

The date at the top changes with it. If something material changes, we will say so in the game as well.
